AirWallet ApS offers a cutting-edge mobile payment system for laundry equipment distributors, shared laundry owners, and users. Today the company based in Odense, Denmark has 13 employees and operates in more than 15 countries.
Challenge
In 2017, AirWallet aimed to assist laundry owners in eliminating tedious tasks involving coins and tokens, which led to the development of a cashless payment solution for laundromats.
However, the founders needed to quickly find a company that could develop and manufacture their controller to bring their innovative product to market.
To achieve this, AirWallet partnered with EKTOS Development and its Electronics Manufacturing Service department, TECHTO. This collaboration enabled AirWallet to launch a reliable and efficient laundry payment system.
Solution
For AirWallet, introducing a customer-focused solution that incorporated continuous design updates throughout the product’s lifecycle was essential.
EKTOS facilitated this by developing a Bluetooth-enabled controller, while TECHTO Electronics managed the production of the initial prototypes and later transitioned to mass production of the final version.
As a result, the EKTOS group successfully developed and manufactured a payment solution that meets the demands of AirWallet’s customers.
Result
AirWallet has successfully created a user-friendly mobile payment solution for both laundry owners and end users. The collaboration with EKTOS and TECHTO proved fruitful, enabling the development of the AirWallet device within a short timeframe. This partnership not only maintained competitive product costs but also supported manufacturability over the years.
As a result, there are now over 3,000 AirWallet boxes installed and active worldwide.

Ongoing support
EKTOS remains committed to supporting the AirWallet product by providing design updates throughout its lifecycle. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when electronic component shortages arose, EKTOS took the initiative to redesign the controller. This redesign not only enhanced manufacturability but also led to approximately 20% optimization in the Bill of Materials (BOM) cost. Simultaneously, TECHTO adeptly adjusted its production line to facilitate a smooth transition between product versions.
TECHTO is proud to manufacture AirWallet at our factory in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, and we sincerely appreciate the trust AirWallet has placed in us by placing both initial and ongoing orders, despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war.
We also greatly value the commitment demonstrated by AirWallet’s founder and owner, Christian Mortensen, and his colleague, who visited our production site in September 2022, further strengthening our partnership.
