Inelco Grinders
World-class grinding welding electrodes
January 26, 2020
Inelco Grinders A/S is a prominent Danish company renowned for its expertise in grinding welding electrodes. Their Ultima-TIG series stands out in the industry for its safety and resource efficiency. To enhance the performance of this series, Inelco Grinders partnered with EKTOS for a comprehensive redesign of the electronics, with production now being managed by TECHTO Electronics.
Challenge
Inelco Grinders wanted to improve the precision and efficiency of their Ultima-TIG grinders to minimize material waste during the grinding process. As tungsten is a valuable material, excessive grinding waste could lead to higher costs. Furthermore, many customers were experiencing frequent breakdowns due to a lack of proper maintenance, with machines being returned for repair.
In addition to these technical challenges, Inelco needed their grinders to meet regulatory standards across various global markets and be adaptable to both 110 V and 220 V power supplies.
Solution
EKTOS collaborated with Inelco Grinders to optimize the machine’s controller, enabling grinders to operate efficiently under various conditions and reduce material waste. Enhancements included a service indicator to alert users for cleaning and maintenance, preventing unnecessary repairs and an overload protection system that automatically shuts off the motor to prevent damage.
EKTOS also redesigned the electronics to comply with regional regulatory requirements, allowing the grinder to function on both 110 V and 220 V power supplies. By combining two models into a single control system, EKTOS simplified the product line and improved flexibility for customers in different markets.
